Buffalo Bills trade for WR Amari Cooper in deal with Cleveland Browns

The Buffalo Bills have acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a third-round pick, the teams announced Tuesday.

The Browns will also receive a seventh-round pick in 2026, while the Bills acquire a sixth-round pick in 2025 in addition to Cooper.

In six games so far this season, Cooper has 24 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper’s 10.4 yards per catch average is the lowest of his career.

Buffalo is 4-2 and in first place in the AFC East, but its passing attack has taken a step back from last year. Quarterback Josh Allen is averaging only 193.3 yards per game passing after averaging 253.3 a season ago.

After trading receiver Stefon Diggs in the offseason, the Bills have tried to replace his production in the aggregate. They have three pass catchers with over 200 yards, but nobody on pace for 1,000 for the season. Two of Buffalo’s top four players in receiving yards are a tight end and a running back.

The Browns are 1-5 and have lost four straight games. Their quarterback, Deshaun Watson, is ranked last among all qualifying players in quarterback rating.

Cooper, 30, is a five-time Pro Bowl selection, most recently last season. In 2023, he set a career high in receiving with 1,250 yards.

Cooper was drafted in the first round in 2015 by the then-Oakland Raiders before he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys midway through the 2018 season. In 146 career games, Cooper has 9,736 yards and 62 touchdowns.

After a win over the New York Jets on Monday, the Bills next play the visiting Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
