“Big Tech Company appoints itself as omniscient authority defining absolute truth; represses all untrue information to disencumber public of critical thinking.”

Yeah, seriously have no idea why people are excited about this. Who wants google to gatekeep information?

[–]GoofySouthernDude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They came first for the dislike button...

[–]Scottishdarkface 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I'm sad I had to scroll this far down to find someone that understands.

Look, I am all for people like anti-vaxxers, Holocaust deniers, Sandy Hook hoaxers etc getting shutdown because they are human garbage.

But I still cant bring myself to support any giant entity to determine what I can and cant see if that makes sense? There are good intentions here but easily corrupted.

I don’t trust youtube to skillfully execute.

[–]jrelaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You saying you are in for certain types of censorship, as justified or well meaning as you may be, is still anti-free speech. Free speech means taking the bad with the good, otherwise someone other than yourself gets to determine what is bad and what is good.

I hope they do a better job than what they're doing about so-called copyright violations.

[–]Heliolord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha. Oh wait, you're serious? Let me laugh even harder. Hahahahahahahaha!

The dark ages, where those who spoke contrary to the powerful, wise, and holy church were silenced. Nobody learns, history repeats

[–]LORDTRITUN 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Deleting dislikes was totally a great move for combating misinformation…

[–]humanera12017[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

youtube cares about other misinformation /s

[–]OathKeeper66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Translation: youtube to Censor content in different ways.

[–]Pinkeyefarts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then bring back the thumbs down button so I can differentiate click bait from good content.

[–]suncoastkid1 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Censorship is so uplifting. /s

[–]Low_Statistician4675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting how we never observe these changes, only told they exist by google

[–]BigZaddyJazzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pathetic. I miss when the internet was permissibly weird. At least it was real.

[–]Sariel007 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Remember when we called misinformation what it was? Lies. Also remember when lying was bad?

[–]MotherAvocado2010 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Remember when many a times in science a discovery was so revolutionary that you were called insane, corrupt, or a lier? Fight ideas with reason and logic, silencing is a sign of weakness

To doctors at the time when it was initially being proposed, hand washing was controversial and they didn’t want to accept it because they didn’t want to appear to be complicit in the patients’ deaths they’d been causing with their dirty fucking hands

[–]Buck_Thorn 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Well, deliberate misinformation, anyway. There is also always the possibility of well-intentioned by wrong information.

[–]Sariel007 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There is also always the possibility of well-intentioned by wrong information.

and then there are the Qtards, election deniers etc.

Using machine learning to do this is a bad idea. Facebook tried it for their foray into journalism and it was a huge failure compared to just hiring people.

Honestly, just get stop letting the fact-stretching, bad-faith political shills advertise on the platform.

The amount of awful ads I see say the most outrageous things.

But of course the ads are where youtube gets their money so…

[–]Sonnyillmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone was crazy you would just let crazy be crazy. There seems to be a lot of money getting spent from web articles to youtube censorship to battle what people's opinions. As long as they still allow terrorist beheadings and flat Earth I guess I'm okay with it. 😬😬
