According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average US worker has been at their job for just under four years. That's down 15 percent from 2014, and the lowest the country's median job tenure has been since 2002.

Additionally, the team at USAFacts found that — as of January 2024 — most Americans have either been in the same job for less than a year (22.2 percent), or for more than 10 years (26.2 percent).

There are some industries whose workers tend to stay significantly longer than others'. The public sector tops the list, with the average job tenure for government employees standing at 6.2 years, followed by mining and gas (5.7 years) and manufacturing (4.9 years).
