Important Update from the Interim Board of Metafilter

User Rhaomi, a member of the 3-person interim board that currently runs Metafilter, has posted a long update explaining the board's reasoning for various decisions and attempting to defend the board from some criticisms. Unfortunately, it's buried 170+ comments deep in a thread from June 15th, instead of being posted to the MetaTalk front page (as many users have requested the board do regularly and which Rhaomi does not commit to doing in the future in his message). This is a post to boost that essential update from site leadership to where more people might see it and contribute their own responses.

Decades of non-stop fun

I was traveling during my Metafilter 25th anniversary on May 22nd. Most of my family doesn't really know what Metafilter is. I am not sure what it means to participate in an online forum for 25 years, or 40 percent of my life, but like a Christo installation, the real impressive achievement is not just the content, but the evolving structure/people that allow this place to keep functioning for so long. What MeFites Do You Recognize?

Almost anytime I see a post about ecology or nature, I know it must have been posted by chariot pulled by cassowaries. Are there any other MeFites that you think, "This post (or comment) must be by so-and-so"? And what types of things do they write? But let's only be positive, please.

It was really unacceptable to delete this post.

This one, that already had a bunch of comments. "Tasteless title"? Okay, contact the poster and get permission to change the fucking title. Seriously, moderators, you have other tools in your fucking toolbox besides deleting everything that upsets someone.
