Special Event: Weekly Planet's Commentary of INDEPENDENCE DAY

MST Club presents.... Hey, you know a movie I've always thought was grossly overrated? Independence Day, or "ID4" according to their flummoxing marketing. It's supposed to be inspiring in how it has the whole world coming together to fight against an alien menace through the power of their indomitable spirit and their Apple products, but the main characters, a diverse company of stereotypes to be sure, are still Americans, and it's the US President who tells those other countries that they'll now celebrate July 4th too. Strikes me all wrong, I say! And I haven't even gotten into how Computery Guy writes a virus for a platform that not only he's never seen before, but neither has anyone on Earth. Anyway, i now conclude this kvetch. Please enjoy Weekly Planet's commentary on this very goofy, not at all inspiring movie. Riff recorded June 2016.

Movie: Pavements

[TRAILER] Alex Ross Perry’s slippery experimental mockumentary about the American indie rock band Pavement is split into several competing segments: there’s a biopic being filmed called Range Life: A Pavement Story, a jukebox musical ramping up known as Slanted! Enchanted! A Pavement Musical, the conceiving of a museum exhibition of their archives named “Pavements 1933-2022: A Pavement Museum,” and a 2022 reunion tour which will welcome their first shows together since 2010. Only half of these events are real. But each collides and blends with one another, mixing and confusing fact and fiction, performance and sincerity, artifice and naturalism. It's fucking Pavement.
