Using US Census Bureau data, SmartAsset ranked 271 cities across the country based on how many millennials they welcomed in 2023. Millennials are defined as those aged 25 to 44, and only cities with available data and at least 100,000 people aged one or over were analyzed.

Newly moved-in millennials made up the largest share of the population in Alexandria, Virginia, where 12.67 percent of the city's residents were millennial transplants in 2023.

Cambridge, Massachusetts, took second place, with new residents aged 25 to 44 accounting for 12.15 percent of the total population.

There are eight other cities where new millennials made up more than 10 percent of the total population: Denver, Colorado; Sandy Springs, Georgia; Seattle, Washington; Sunnyvale, California; Santa Clara, California; Arlington, Virginia; Austin, Texas and Orlando, Florida.

When it comes to real numbers, New York City attracted by far the most milennials, with 362,649 choosing to move there in 2023. Los Angeles, which had the second-largest influx of millennials, saw 187,210 join the city in the same year.

Millennials make up the largest share of the population in Seattle, where around 42 percent of residents are aged between 25 and 44.
