At the time of writing, the average human life expectancy sits at around 73 years old. Using Discover Wildlife data, Visual Capitalist created a graphic to show how the human lifespan compares to that of other long-living mammals.
The closest mammal to humans in terms of lifespan is the elephant, with 56 years on average โ but even this exceeds the 47-year life expectancy of humans living back in 1950.
No other mammal lives as long as the bowhead whale, which has an impressive average lifespan of around 200 years.
