Does every language and country accept emojis as meaning the same thing? Clearly not, as Word Tips compiled a list of the 1,644 most commonly used emojis in the world, including the ones that confused people the most.

They calculated the average monthly search volumes β€” of people who searched for emoji + "meaning" β€” in every country, and mapped it all out. Sometimes facial expressions are just confusing, unless someone spells it out in words to you.

  • The pleading face πŸ₯Ί is the world's most confusing emoji, and is the most searched emoji in the US. America's second most confusing emoji is the woozy face πŸ₯΄.
