The US has four major pizza chains – Domino's, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, and Papa Johns. All of them apart from Little Caesars have hundreds of sites in the UK.

Business Insider's Grace Dean decided to put them to the test, so she invited some friends round to play board games and compare pizzas.

Dean ordered a large cheese-and-tomato stuffed-crust pizza, a portion of barbecue chicken wings, and barbecue and garlic and herbs dips from Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Papa Johns.

She quickly noticed some differences in the pizzas. Domino's pie looked the smallest and much more tomatoey than the others.

This was the pizza from Pizza Hut. Dean ordered a large Margherita with stuffed crust, which the company says serves three. It cost £22.98 (about $29) and weighed 34 ounces — the heaviest of the bunch. Pizza Hut didn't list the size in inches.

It was cut into eight large slices, which seemed to be identical in size.

The Papa Johns pizza cost a little more at £24.48 (about $31), making it the most expensive of the three. Dean ordered a large cheese and tomato with stuffed crust, which the company says is 13.5 inches. It weighed 30.4 ounces.

And this was the 13.5-inch large cheese and tomato pizza with stuffed crust from Domino's, which cost £21.99 (just under $28). Domino's says its pizza serves three to four people.

It weighed about 25.6 ounces, making it the lightest of the bunch. The Pizza Hut pie weighed about a third more.

This is what the three pizzas looked like next to each other: Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Papa Johns.

The Pizza Hut pie definitely had the thickest base, which made the slices quite sturdy. Dean's friend described it as "almost like a pretzel." The cheese and tomato were evenly distributed across the dough.

The Papa Johns pizza, in comparison, had the thinnest base and the slices were quite floppy, making it messy to eat. The cheese wasn't as evenly distributed across the pie and was quite clumpy instead, though this may have happened during delivery.

Domino's pizza was much more tomatoey than the other two.

The cheese in its stuffed crust was infused with garlic and herbs, unlike the others.

These are the stuffed crusts side-by-side. The Domino's one, in the middle, has a far smaller crust, yet it was more densely packed with cheese. The Pizza Hut pie, at the top of the pile, and the Papa Johns, at the bottom, had more air gaps.
