In 2022, there were 5.8 homicides for every 100,000 people worldwide โ but in some countries, that figure is drastically higher.
Using UNODC data, Visual Capitalist ranked the countries with the highest homicide rates globally.
Several of the countries with the most killings are located in the Caribbean. Jamaica tops the list, with 53.3 homicides per 100,000 people, followed by St. Vincent and the Grenadines, with 40.4.
At the other end of the top 10 ranking are Belize and Ecuador, with 27.9 and 27 homicides per 1,000 people, respectively.
The US, which sits in 42nd place overall, saw a homicide rate of 6.4 in 2022.
